This meeting is dedicated
to the memory of Eleanor Dorsey
and the spirit of the
Antalya Coastal Seas Declaration

A Marine Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technology Conference was held October 12-13, 2000 in conjunction with the FishExpo/WorkBoat Atlantic, Rhode Island Convention Center, Providence. This event was intended for fishermen and other users of marine resources in the New England region. It is also a chance for specialists from around the world to share their knowledge and expertise in dealing with challenges that relate to understanding the marine environment.

Day one included a marine GIS technology overview including a wide range of fishing-related applications. A panel on the convergence of science and fishing expertise reviewed the current role of GIS technologies as they relate to fisheries.

Day two concentrated on mapping techniques and data resources, with modeling and predictive software in the afternoon.

A final panel concentrated on developing our knowledge of fisheries habitat using GIS, its applications and solutions.
